Robert Anderson

Robert Anderson is a New York–based photographer who captures the intricate world of insects. He is a persona I created to explore how branding can express the heart of a creator’s craft. Imagining his focus on detail, natural forms, and quiet observation allowed me to develop a visual identity that mirrors the precision and complexity of his work, showing how design can connect deeply to an artist’s story.

The Rationale
behind the brand

By imagining his perspective and the delicate subjects he photographs, I shaped the letter R into a subtle insect form. The looping strokes, mirrored symmetry and fine serifs hint at wings and antennae without being literal. This quiet transformation brings his character to life and reflects the precision, curiosity and artistry that define his work.

Explorations

Here are my explorations of how I arrived at the letter R and developed an insect-inspired logo form. I began by breaking the letter down into its essential strokes like its vertical spine, curved bowl, and diagonal leg and experimenting with different ways these parts could morph into more organic shapes. By pushing and pulling these elements, I explored how the rigid structure of a letterform could evolve into something more fluid and creature-like.
